Hey everyone.  This is my first stab at writing fan fics, so I hope you all like it!

Bloodshot deadbeat and lack of sleep
Making your mascara bleed
Tears down your face
Leaving traces of my mistakes
When I say
If I promise to go to church on Sunday
Will you go with me on Friday night…

A man by the name of Billie Joe Armstrong clumsily walked through the front door.

Billie Joe was in the rock band Green Day with his two friends, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool.  Unfortunately, the bands popularity had been steadily going downhill.  Billie Joe was having problems at home and that had caused him to have a sour attitude towards his family and his friends.  Recently, Billie Joe stopped showing for band practice and Mike and Tre were so fed up, they stopped showing too.

All these thoughts ran through Billie Joe’s head as he shed his coat, kicked off his shoes, and sat down in a living room chair.  Billie rubbed his temples with his pointer fingers and sighed.  “What a day,” Billie moaned.

Billie Joe’s wife, Adrienne Armstrong, rolled her brown eyes and shook her head.  She stood up from the couch she was sitting on and walked to the front door.  She hung up her husbands coat and moved his shoes out of the way.  “What’s wrong Billie?  You haven’t been drinking have you?”  Adrienne asked her voice worried.  She always hated it when Billie Joe came home drunk.  He scared her.  She didn’t want a repeat of what had happened last time.

“What the fuck do you think I am woman, a total waste?” Billie Joe growled.   Adrienne could tell he was beginning to get mad, so she changed the subject.

“Joey learned how to count to ten today in kindergarten,” Adrienne said.  She was referring to their son, Joseph Marciano Armstrong.  Adrienne smiled.  She remembered how Joey had counted to ten for her when she picked him up from school.

“Jesus woman, do you ever shut up,” Billie Joe said raising his voice.

“Billie Joe,” Adrienne said, feeling confident.  “I thought you might want to know what your son was doing in school.  It might interest you.”

“Well is doesn’t,” Billie Joe said, slurring his words.  He was most defiantly drunk.  Billie Joe stood up and stretched.  “God,” he said as he ran his fingers through his messy black hair.  “I’m so tired.  Did you make me food?” he asked Adrienne.

Adrienne swallowed nervously.  “Well, umm, Billie, I just thought you would get something to eat while you were out doing…” her voice trailed off.

Billie Joe gave Adrienne a cold stare.  “What Adrienne.  While I was out doing what?”  Billie Joe stepped up to Adrienne and looked her in the eyes.

Adrienne swallowed again.  She felt hot tears about the escape her eyes.  “Drinking.  That’s what you were doing.  That’s all you ever do isn’t it?  While I’m at home taking care of our son.”  Adrienne was going to say more, but she was cut short.  Billie Joe raised his hand and quickly slapped her across the face.

Her neck spun sharply to the right and her cheek stung.  She lost her balance and fell to the floor.

“It’s not my fucking problem if I drink or not, Adrienne.  It’s my life and I can do whatever the fuck I want,” Billie Joe yelled.

Adrienne swallowed and brought her hand to her cheek.  She could feel a large lump and knew there was going to be a bruise.  Using the table for support, she stood up.  This is exactly what happened last time.  Her marriage to this monster had blown up in her face.

Before she could stop them, hot tears fell down her face making her mascara bleed.  Soon, small black lines could be seen on her face.

Suddenly, Billie Joe felt extremely guilty.  He hated to see Adrienne cry, but it was his fault she was crying in the first place.  He walked forward until he was right in front of her.

Adrienne could smell the alcohol on his breath and see his glazed over eyes.  She turned her head and waited for the blow to come, but it never did.  When she felt it was safe, she opened her eyes and looked into Billie Joe’s foggy green ones.

Billie Joe mouthed the words “I’m sorry.”  He tried to kiss her, but Adrienne pulled back.

“No Billie Joe,” she said.  “I can’t do this anymore.  I can’t have you coming home drunk every night, you hitting me, then you feeling sorry.  It just can’t work that way.  No matter how hard you want it to, it can’t.”

“Adie baby,” Billie Joe said.  “I love you.”

Adrienne laughed coldly.  “Yeah right,” she said.  “You say that, but when do you ever mean it?”

“I do mean it,” Billie said, trying to get Adrienne to believe him.  “I really do.”

“Well you sure do have a hell of a way showing it.”  Adrienne said.
He wished Adie would believe him.  “Fine,” Billie Joe said.  “Just fucking fine.”  Billie Joe walked over to the door and slammed it as he left once again.

Again, Adrienne felt hot tears escaping from her eyes.  Her legs gave in and she fell to the floor, crying her eyes out.

If you live with me, I’ll die for you and this compromise…

Thank you.  I do have more.

The next day…

Billie Joe sat at a local bar and put his head in his hands.  “Jesus”, Billie Joe said aloud.  “I really do love Adie, but like she said, I really do have a hell of a way showing her.”  Billie Joe sighed and signaled to the bar tender.

“Give me a beer,” he said as he slapped down some crumpled dollar bills on the counter.

The bar tender nodded and went to the back to fix the rock star a drink.  Speaking of rock star, Billie Joe wondered how Tre and Mike were doing.  Probably being better husbands and fathers than me, he thought bitterly.

Having Joseph was such a surprise; Billie just wasn’t ready to be a father.  He knew Adrienne tried to depend on him.  He would say one thing but do another.  He was a walking contradiction.

The bar tender came back and put the tall glass of beer in front of Billie Joe.  The bar tender went to the other side of the bar to tend to someone else.  “Shit,” Billie Joe said as he downed the beer in record time.  He didn’t care if he came home drunk; all he cared about was erasing the empty feeling in the pit of his stomach.

Later that same day…

Adrienne sat down on the living room couch and wrung her hands together.  When she had woken up that morning, Billie wasn’t home where he should have been.  He was usually passed out on the couch.  Where was he?

Suddenly, Adrienne’s mind flashed back to last night.  Now she remembered everything.  Billie coming home, them arguing, him slapping her, him leaving, and her crying.  She guessed he never came back that night.

Adrienne wouldn’t be surprised if Billie Joe came home at 11:00 tonight.  Spending all day drinking, that was what he was best at.  Adrienne lifted her pale hand and felt her check.  A big ugly purple bruise had blossomed where Billie Joe’s powerful hand had met her skin.  She didn’t know if Billie would remember how the bruise got there.  Sometimes he remembered the things he did the night before, and sometimes he didn’t.  The part that Adrienne hated most of all was when he pretended to be sorry.

Even though Adrienne knew he probably was sorry, he would just turn around and do it again the next day.  How was she supposed to fix a broken family?  She couldn’t do it by herself.  Who would help her?

The sharp ring of the telephone brought Adrienne out of her thoughts.  She quickly got up and walked towards the phone.  She didn’t want the ringing to wake up Joey.  He was still sleeping.

Adrienne picked up the phone.  “Hello,” she said breathlessly?  She had picked up the phone, but several minutes later, she would wish she hadn’t.

Alright.  I will post more, you greedy peeps!

“Is this Mrs. Armstrong,” the voice on the other line asked?  Adrienne’s eyes opened wide and she prayed that nothing was wrong.  “Yes,” Adrienne said slowly.  “Is it my husband?”

The man on the phone cleared his throat.  “My name is Officer Randal and I have some unfortunate news about your husband, Mr. Armstrong.”

Adrienne stayed silent.  She didn’t know what to do.  What could she say?  She decided on something simple.  “Okay.  What happened?”

Officer Randal cleared his throat again.  It was rough and scratchy sounding.  Adrienne hated it.  “It seems that Mr. Armstrong has had too much to drink this morning.  When the bar tender tried to stop him from drinking, Mr. Armstrong got verbal.  There was yelling and shouting.  Then, it became physical.  Your husband has been rushed to the hospital and so has the bar tender, Mr. Sanchez.”

Adrienne was speechless.  How could Billie do this to her?  Several years ago, he had been arrested for a DUI.  He had promised her nothing like that would ever happen again.  He lied, but that didn’t surprise Adrienne.  Billie Joe lied all the time.

Yet again, Adrienne said nothing.  “Hello,” Officer Randal said?  “Are you still there Mrs. Armstrong?”

Adrienne’s voice cracked as she answered the officer.  “Yes.  I’m still here.  What can I do?”

“Well,” Officer Randal said.  “You can come to the hospital as soon as possible.  When we were taking Mr. Armstrong to the hospital, he was asking for you.”

Sittin' on the hood of a camaro
Walkin' shooting stars across the earth
Counting all the bites from the mosquitoes
There goes my Minnesota girl

Lazy days
Gone without notice
In a daze…with faraway eyes

Driving to a closed spot Wednesday afternoon
There goes my Minnesota girl

In a daze
Go without notice
Lazy days…with faraway eyes

Countin' from the pieces we have been through
Here comes my Minnesota girl…

Adrienne sat in Billie Joe’s hospital room.  He was lying in the hospital bed, a sheet pulled up to his chest.  His green eyes were closed and his hair was messed up.  Adrienne could see scratches on his face and a lump over his right eye.  That was gong to be a scar.

She reached under the sheet and took his rough hand in her smooth one.  She played with his fingers and thought.  How could they ever make this work?  Joey couldn’t grow up with a father like this, and she couldn’t grow up with a husband like this.  Adrienne shook her head as hot tears fell.  She placed a stray dreadlock behind her ear and let go of Billie’s hand.

Adrienne searched through her purse slowly, as if she didn’t want to find what she was looking for.

She pulled out her wedding ring.  When Billie had given it to her on their wedding day, she thought it was the most beautiful thing in the world, but now it was just a bringer of bad memories.  She had promised him she would never take it off.  She had broken that promise.  Adrienne had removed it from her finger the day Billie had hit her.

She placed the ring on the table next to her and looked around the room for a spare piece of paper and a pen.  She spotted one on the counter by the sink.  She got up and retrieved it.  Adrienne neatly wrote a note to Billie.  In the note, she told him everything, everything she had been thinking for many years.

Adrienne placed the note next to her ring and walked slowly to the door.  She retrieved her son from the play area and took his hand.  Together, they walked out the hospital doors and toward a new life.

There goes my Minnesota girl…

Boxed up
All of her favorite things
Sold the rest at a rainy yard sale
Big plans and leaving friends and
A westbound sign
Weighed out
Her choices on a scale
Prevailing nothing made sense
Just transportation and a
Blank decision...

She's taking off
Taking off...
Taking off...
Taking off...

No time and no copping out
She's burning daylight and petrol
Blacked out the rearview mirror
Heading westward on
Strung out
On confusion road
And ten minute nervous breakdowns
Xanex a beer for thought
And she determined...

She's taking off
Taking off...
Taking off...
Taking off...

Is it salvation?
Or an escape from discontent?
Will she find her name
In the California cement?
Punched out of the grind
That punched her one too many times...
Is tragedy 2000 miles away?

She's taking off
Taking off...
Taking off...
Taking off...

Adrienne set down the heavy cardboard in the middle of the floor.  She untied her blue bandana and wiped the sweat off her face.  Today, she would start over.  No more Billie Joe.  No more late night episodes.  Soon, she would be free.

Adrienne sighed.  Billie Joe was supposed to come home from the hospital today, all wrapped up in bandages.  Adrienne wanted to leave before he got here.  She didn’t want him getting physical and try to stop her from leaving.  She was turning her back on all of that.  No more.

She walked into the kitchen and looked around in the fridge and pulled out a beer.  She unscrewed the top and sipped the foam.  With the beer in hand, she walked into the living room and looked around.  Everything was loaded into boxes, all her and Joey’s favorite things.  All the bad memories tucked away in the walls.  She was leaving it all behind.

Still, something was troubling her.  What would Joey do?  Adrienne didn’t want to tell the little guy that he would probably never see his daddy again, that would break his heart.  Billie Joe was never there for him, but for some reason, Joey still loved him.

Speaking of Joey, he came bounding down the stairs and into his mothers arms.  Adrienne ruffled his brown hair and patted his back.  “Mommy,” Joey asked?  “How come daddy isn’t coming with us?”

Adrienne braced herself.  She squatted and kissed his chubby cheeks.  “Honey,” Adrienne started.  “We won’t see daddy for awhile.  Daddy needs some time to think.  Don’t worry, you will see him again,” Adrienne lied.  “It will be just like the times when daddy went away the play his music, but the only thing is, he will be away for a bit longer.  Does that make sense?”

Joey shrugged.  “I guess so.  Then how come all of my toys are in boxes?”

“We’re taking all of our things with us.  Daddy won’t miss them,” Adrienne assured her curious son.

Joey smiled, like he knew what exactly was going on.  He turned around and attempted to lift a heavy box.  His cheeks grew red and puffy as he tried to lift it.  Adrienne watched in amusement and told him she could get it.

Her son nodded and backed off to watch his mommy lift the heavy box.  Adrienne picked it up, and with Joey watching in amazement behind her, carried it off to load in the trunk.

Later…

Once all the boxes were loaded into the car, they were ready to go.  Adrienne and Joey walked out to the car and took one last look at the house that held so many memories, most of them bad.  “Bye bye,” Joey called loudly to the house.  Adrienne gave him a slight push to get him into the car.  She strapped him in and started up the engine.  As they started off down the road, Adrienne still didn’t know where they were going.  Oh well, she thought.  Anywhere is better than here.

Then it hit her.  She would go back home.  Home to Minnesota.

I'm not sure when the next part will be up.  I'm trying to make time to write my story, but I have a lot going on and like no free time.  I'm also suffering from a litte writers block.  When I get the next part written, I will be sure to post it.
